Dear friends, colleagues, and family –
Most of you have received this request for over 15 years. I am again asking for your support for Elizabeth Stone House , an organization in my community of Jamaica Plain thatprovides services to women who have experienced violence. For 16 years I have joined a wonderful group of women who come together for 3 days to hike in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and raise money for the Stone House. However, this year, because I am unable to join the hike due to a family commitment, I will be participating as a “virtual hiker.” While I am in Vermont babysitting for Jack, my grandson, the real hikers will be carrying my likeness with them. I will miss the event and the opportunity to spend some time thinking about my sister, in whose honor I hike have hiked for many years but I hope to return as an "in-person" hiker next year.
It would have been easy to just skip this year but these are difficult times for small nonprofit agencies like Elizabeth Stone House. I remain impressed by the quality of work of their work and the breadth of services that the Stone House offers to promote women’s self-sufficiency. I am honored to support their work and especially their plans to build a new family-friendly building. I am hoping that you will consider a donation of $50-$100 to help me reach my fundraising goal of $3000. A donation of $50 pays for childcare during two sessions of Stone House moms’ groups and $100 pays to keep a woman safe for 2 nights in their Emergency Women’s Shelter. Of course, any amount - more or less than the suggested donation - is very much appreciated.
Thanks again for your support –
